With a view to recognize and encourage outstanding talent in budding engineering students across India, Mahindra Satyam instituted Young Engineer Awards in Aerospace domain in 2010. The objective was to identify the best work/project in aerospace related areas such as structures, controls, aerodynamics and avionics.
This was a prestigious and first of its kind initiative in India which witnessed overwhelming participation from about 60 premier institutions including the Indian Institute of Science, IITs, NITs and other reputed engineering colleges.
Around 300 students submitted their abstracts which were reviewed by eminent panelists and subject matter experts at various levels. Students from IIT Kharagpur were awarded 1st prize for their work on “Low cost attitude control system for small fixed wing unmanned air vehicles”. Two teams from Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram were given the first and second runner up awards for their presentation in Avionics and Aerodynamics respectively.
A cash prize of Rs. 50,000, Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 20,000 was awarded for the papers adjudged in first, second, and third places respectively.
